IOB Hosts Successful Symposium

The Institute of Bioinformatics hosted a symposium, Big Data Challenges in Life Sciences, at the Georgia Center on Oct. 12, 2015. Big Data experts from across the country presented during the day-long event, which was attended by 140 registrants from UGA and neighboring areas.

IOB would like to thank the sponsors of the event for helping to make it a successful and informative meeting.

Student Receives Graduate Fellowship

Ruan_Zheng1Doctoral student Zheng Ruan has been awarded the Grimes Family Distinguished Fellowship in Natural Sciences. The Fellowship provides support to a student in Franklin College working on cancer research.

Shimkits Lab Publishes Research

Dr. Lawrence Shimkits and his lab have published research in Genes and Development. The soil bacterium research has identified a potential mechanism for neurodegenerative diseases.
