Bensasson, Douda

Research interests:

Genomes only make sense in the light of evolution, so we use a combined evolutionary and bioinformatics approach to study the parts of genomes people know least about: centromeres, repetitive and other noncoding DNA. We are also interested in the invisible world of microbes. By studying the genomes of wine yeast we hope to answer fundamental questions about domestication, and ultimately to predict how microbial biodiversity could be affected by climate change. By joining the lab you can train in bioinformatics, genomics, evolutionary biology, population genetics and statistics.

Wallace, Jason

Research Interests:

My research focuses on using quantitative genetics, genomics, statistics, and bioinformatics to improve crops. My lab has a small field and wet-lab component and a large computational one; our work includes genome-wide marker development, trait mapping, population genetics, and genome assembly. Maize is the lab workhorse, and we also have collaborations in other crops. Recently we also started using our toolsets to investigate the relationship between crop plants and their microbiome (the collection of all microbes living on and inside the plant), with the eventual goal of using this knowledge to improve crop breeding and management.

Edison, Arthur

Research Interest

We have interdisciplinary projects in metabolomics development,

chemical ecology, and NMR technology development. Much of our

research focuses on the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans.

Ottesen, Elizabeth

Research Interest
My primary research is in the area of environmental microbiology and microbial community ecology. Much of this research utilizes molecular approaches, including molecular community analysis, metagenomics, and metatranscriptomics for analysis of microbial community composition and behavior in natural environments.

Liu, Tianming

Research Interest

Brain imaging, bioimaging and multimedia, and Alzheimer’s Disease

Choi, Jeong-Hyeon (Justin)

Research Interest

My laboratory focuses on developing computational algorithms and pipelines for genomics and epigenomics data analysis to identify cancer-driving genes and regulatory elements and to uncover the molecular mechanisms of their relationship. We are also interested in applying new sequencing technologies for longer sequence reads such as PacBio and Oxford nanopore sequencing for de novo assemblies, assembly validation, and genome finishing.
