Symposium Award Winners

Duo Peng won the Outstanding Poster Award for his poster titled “A recombination detection pipeline for large gene families”. He received a Geneious license as well as $350 for this achievement.

Eric Talevich was the runner-up for this award with his poster titled “Phyloinformatics in python: reusable software and case studies in comparative genomics of pathogen protein kinases”. He received a Geneious license and $150 for his achievement.

The Ying Xu Outstanding Student Paper Award went to Ujwal Bagal in Jeffrey Dean’s lab for her paper titled “The phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL) gene family shows a gymnosperm-specific lineage”. She received $500 for winning this prestigious award.

The Illumina poster award went out to Xi Gu, Deli Liu, Felipe Sarmiento, Ying Sun, Eric Talevich, and Wenjuan Zhang, and the Illumina grand prize of $50 went to Christian Edwardson and Sarah Sander.

Honorable mentions for posters go out to Ahmad Al-Omari, Qin Ma, Felipe Sarmiento, and Eric King.
